PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE: August 2001 – to date – INE (National Institute for Statistics – Brasil), as the Datawarehouse nucleus coordinator, I assume the leadership of a team responsible for the design, implementation, rollout and maintenance of the Portuguese Statistical Institute’s Datawarehouse. INE’s Datawarehouse stands on top of several heterogeneous informational systems, touches different operational levels in the organization (representing a valuable contribution to the unification of Methodologies) and disseminates statistical related Information to researchers, internal users, regional directions and to the public in general. Technically speaking it uses ORACLE and SQL-Server as databases for rowdata as well as aggregated data. It is designed with SYBASE, ORACLE, Microsoft and QUEST based tools, uses ETL tools from Sagent and Microsoft, and disseminates information via Business Objects universes, ORACLE and Microsoft multidimentional Cubes, customer tailed applications and the Web via Webservices. I also assume the International cooperation, where the Portuguese partnership within European projects devoted to Statistical and Technical Metadata normalization is an example INE’s Datawarehouse is today considered pioneer among the European Statistical Institutes. 1997 - 2001 – ORTEC Consultants BV (Gouda – The Netherlands). As a Consultant I worked with resource optimization processes in areas like the Human Resource Management and Transport & Distribution. During last 3 and half years with ORTEC I was the Technical Project Leader of a project devoted to the construction of an Order Management System (OMS) for BP (British Petroleum). The OMS presents itself today as a key element in the BP planning/distribution machinery, it is live in USA, United Kingdom, France, Scotland, Ireland, Turkey, Switzerland, Greece, Holland and Brasil, New Zealand, Australia, Japan and China. This project stands on top of a dedicated ORACLE database and was totally developed within ORACLE tools (Designer and Developer). It implements BP’s ‘One fleet concept', bringing to the same ‘informational geography’ Order-takers, Schedulers, Customer Management Centers and Business Managers. It enforces BP’s Common Operation Strategy within all the countries where it is live, implementing real-time heterogeneous system integration, interacting with several BP’s internal systems (ISP, JD Edwards, advanced Routing and Scheduling Operational Research solutions, automatic order generation for dispatchers, inventory management, WEB enabled order taking, etc). As a Technical Project Leader I was involved in this project since its begin, defining functionality and needs near and with the BP, creating functional and technical designs, coaching, implementing, testing and rolling out, accompanying all the steps of the project live cycle. Assumed the overall project architecture design, the technical responsibility on all the developments executed (by me and my team which I did lieder in a tutorial regime), the systems integration design architecture and implementation, database global management over the country-by-country particular implementations, and the discussion/negotiation of potential new business areas with BP. 1995 - 1996 - 1997 – Owner of an IT enterprise. As the owner on an IT enterprise I worked as Consultant near client enterprises and Science research institutions. Oracle database based applications design and implementation, hardware requirement definition, communication network design, customer tailed Software development were the primary IT areas focused by this enterprise aiming scientific institutions and small & medium enterprises. 1996 - Interdisciplinary Complex of IST (Technical Superior Institute). Research work concerning time of flight mass spectrometry applied to biomaterials with the MALDI technique (Matrix-Assisted Laser Desorption). All the acquisition apparatus was controlled via C programs designed and developed by me. 1995 - Physics Department of FCUL (Lisbon University Sciences Faculty). I acted as an instructor, teaching UNIX/LINUX to Physics students. 1993 - 1994 - 1995 - Physics Department of FCUL (Lisbon University Sciences Faculty). As a network manager, I did build, managed and maintain alone the Physics Department Novel and UNIX networks for 3 years. I was also responsible for the informatics communications between the Department and the outside via Intra and Internet. 1993 - 1994 - Physics Department of FCUL (Lisbon University Sciences Faculty). Participation as a Programmer in the CALIOPE Project (Computer Assisted Laboratory Instrument Oriented to Physics Education) under the supervision of the SPF (Portuguese Physics Society). The software instruments developed were built in C and C++ languages, DOS and Windows platforms. 1993 - Administrative Services of FCUL (Lisbon University Sciences Faculty). Participation as a System Analyst and Programmer in the implementation of the informatics system that allowed the transference of the administrative responsibilities concerning the academic and pedagogic data management, from the University Rectory to the FCUL (Lisbon University Sciences Faculty). The authors of the project received the Descartes 93 award conferred by the Informatics Institute. 1992 - Mathematics and Physics Institute – I received a Young Scientists Scholarship financed by JNICT (National Scientific Technological Investigation Administration) during which I provided the informatics apparatus that allowed Perturbed Angular Correlations (PAC) experiments studies. I developed a informatics tool (written in C language) capable of accomplish the detection, control and real time processing of the data proceeding from PAC experiments. The programs developed then will be installed soon in CERN (European Laboratory for Particle Physics) in Switzerland. 1991 - Infante D. Luís Institute, development of a C based computational application for the detection, analysis and real time processing of seismic signals. The final objective was the creation of a detection network capable of accomplish data information debits to a central, allowing the study by several scientific institutions and a warning to the Civil Protection in case of a seismic event. 1990 - Physics Department Nuclear Physics Laboratory of LNETI (National Laboratory of Engineering and Industrial Technology). Characterization of materials by the Neutron Activation Analysis (NAA), Particle X-Ray Emission (PIXE), and Rutherford Backscattering (RBS) techniques.
